Description
Synchronous fireflies are one of at least 19 species of fireflies that live in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. They are one of only two species in North America whose are known to synchronize their flashing light patterns. Tens of thousands of these lighting bugs can be seen just once a year, usually in June, when the males light up the forest in unison as a way to attract the females.
